In our exciting new topic we are focusing on a variety of aspects of medieval life such as Knights, weaponry, crime and punishment. We will visit Warwick Castle early in the term to help the children gain an insight as to what life in medieval times would have been like and to also gain an appreciation of the structural aspects of a castle and the weaponry associated with its protection. The medieval theme is being continued through our Literacy work which has focused heavily on legends, namely the legend of Robin Hood and the differing versions of the story. The human body is shaping our science work with many links to the medieval theme, especially when the children will be visited by the ‘Barber Surgeon’ who will give them a taste of the brutal treatments endured by the medieval folk. Our term’s finale will take the shape of a Medieval Joust where their learning about Knightly etiquette will be called upon, as indeed will their weaponry and armour knowledge – what an adventure!
