This term, Year 4 will be studying the ‘Awesome Egyptians.’ The tantalising attraction and wealth of knowledge, magic and majesty that this ancient civilisation holds and invokes, never fails to inspire. The children will be immersed amongst a landscape of tombs, pyramids, artefacts, images and vocabulary.
As the closest thing to a time machine, the children will be amazed and truly filled with awe as they see genuine Egyptian mummies and artefacts on our trip to Bristol City museum; where they will make historical deductions with the help of a historian and Egyptologist.
The children will be set challenges and activities though mysterious coded messages written in hieroglyphics. Through Literacy and history the children will be immersed in the geography, culture and everyday life and beliefs of the ancient Egyptians.
The children will write reports, their own versions of Egyptian myths and instructions on the intriguing process of mummification.
Inspired by the great tomb paintings, the children will paint Egyptian designs on real Egyptian papyrus and create their own death masks like Tutankhamen.
They will even build their very own pyramids and learn how to protect it from tomb raiders.
The children will be set the task of mummifying a fish, and en-acting the grisly process of mummification. True hands – on history and scientific investigation!
All this hard work and enjoyment will culminate in a celebration assembly to parents, when the children will show off their new found knowledge skills and achievement.
